About Disciple Heart

The Call WasNever Lost.

It may have been forgotten or misunderstood — but the call to be Jesus’ disciple has never lost its significance.

Why is there a Disciple Heart?

Go Upstream to Jesus’ Own Words.

If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

JesusJohn 8:31 · NKJV

It isn’t about wearing your Sunday best, adding spiritual steps to your routine, memorizing the do’s and don’ts, or learning a religious formula.

When Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,” He was addressing His disciples. It was not the first thing He said about it. Before you answer the call to make disciples, Jesus expects you to answer the call to be His disciple.

Once you’re born again, being one and making one happen together — but the first takes priority because it is more essential.

  1. You’re My disciple if you abide in My Word.
  2. Now, go and make disciples.

Jesus said these things to His disciples as a group. But we won’t answer as a group at the judgment — we will answer individually. So we prefer to talk to just you.

In all times and places, Jesus calls people to follow Him. This is your generation. This is your place. Answer Him with, “Yes, I want to be Your disciple; show me how” — because of who He is and what He’s done for you.

The three values of a disciple

Abide

His Word

The primacy of His Word — His truth.

Love

His Love

The connecting power of His love.

Serve

His Service

The importance of servanthood.

You will function in your imperfections — no one has yet mastered the use of their soul. Everyone has room to grow. You don’t grow into becoming a disciple; you grow by being His disciple. There are no failures here, just learners.

A word about the church

Disciple Heart is neither a local church nor an online church. As a disciple, it is crucial to be under God-ordained leaders where the Word of God is believed and taught unashamedly. Ask God to guide you to a local church — your home away from home.

Statement of beliefs

What We Believe.

Twenty convictions, held plainly. Scripture is our source of truth, doctrine and revelation above every other.

Almighty God and the Trinity

The one true Almighty God consists of and manifests Himself in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is also known as the Godhead.

Creation and Marriage

Almighty God created all things by His Word and created Man in His own image, male and female. His plan for marriage is the covenantal bond between one man and one woman; this is also God’s plan for procreation.

The Goodness of God

God our Creator and Redeemer is inherently good. His goodness is manifested throughout His creation to all persons.

The Reality of Spiritual Darkness

There is a personal, antagonistic, invisible, dark force known as Satan, with finite but deadly powers and cohorts, driven to deceive mankind about God and destroy His creation.

General Revelation

Every person possesses an awareness of God and His eternal goodness; every person is intuitively aware of their need of salvation from sin.

Sin

Sin is any deviation by an individual from God’s heart and plan, in thought, word or deed.

The Fear of God

The principal attitude that leads to life, growth and maturity is the fear of the Lord.

The Deity of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is without origin, the second person of the Trinity. Born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life, vicariously died, conquered the powers of Satan, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in like manner. He can only be known through the drawing and revelation of the Holy Spirit.

The Scriptures

All 66 books of Scripture are the inspired, infallible, inerrant and authoritative Word of God. The purpose of Scripture is to present the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel

The good news of salvation by what Christ alone has accomplished through His substitutionary death — His stripes, His crucifixion, atoning sacrificial death and burial — and His victory over the grave.

The New Birth

The first miracle of redemption: the result of hearing the gospel, seeing Christ’s identity through the Spirit, and responding with repentance and faith. Wholly by grace through faith, it includes healing of the broken heart, deliverance from spiritual darkness, and physical healing (Luke 4:18).

Being a Disciple of Jesus Christ

Christ calls His followers disciples and expects them to place God’s Word as the source of truth, doctrine and revelation above all other sources. It is an individual choice to do so.

Water Baptism

Jesus commanded water baptism by immersion after the new birth, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and by the authority of Jesus’ name.

The Church

The universal church consists of those on earth who are born again. The local church is a geographically centered body professing Christ, gathering under God-ordained leadership.

Holy Communion

The ordinance of the Lord’s Supper, celebrating the Lord’s death until He returns.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is omnipresent to convict of sin and to indwell born-again persons, enabling them to live godly lives and fulfill their ministry. He is the Executive Head of the church.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

A second experience following the new birth. Not required for salvation, but pertinent to living successfully in Christ.

Gifts and Ministries

The manifestational gifts (1 Cor. 12), motivational gifts (Rom. 12), ministerial gifts (Eph. 4), and all ministries of 1 Cor. 12:28–31 are available and present in the body of Christ today.

Heaven and Hell

There is a resurrection of the saved and the lost — the lost to damnation and the saved to life.

The Unity of Disciples

There exists a spiritual unity among all who believe on our Lord Jesus Christ, which we are called to protect.

David Christian is the founder and president of David Christian Ministries, known as Disciple Heart.

David and Gerri had a couple of things in common growing up: both were raised in “churched” families but weren’t born again until their twenties, when they met in the local church.

In 1981, the newlyweds left successful careers in architectural design and nursing to serve as missionaries to Mexico and Ecuador. Both speak and minister fluently in English and Spanish.

They returned to the United States with their three daughters to serve on staff at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, Michigan — ministering to couples and families, assisting with building projects, and overseeing outreach to the Hispanic community of the Grand Rapids region.

In early 1990, a year before leaving South America, God spoke to David concepts related to being a disciple. After nearly thirty years of studying these with God’s help, it is time to share.

Today David and Gerri travel nationally and internationally, teaching the Word and equipping English- and Spanish-speaking churches, pastors and leaders. While David writes a book, he brings churches and individuals an understanding of Jesus’ call on each person to be His disciple — a paradigm shift that strengthens churches, weaves longer-lasting relationships, and brings sustained growth.

The Christians reside in Grandville, Michigan, where they oversee the operations of the ministry.
